The church is the Body of Christ. Eph1:22, 23. This is the institution God is using to raise up Kings and Priests and a people to inherit the Kingdom upon the earth. I wish to share with you my appreciation to God that has added us to this fellowship of true worshipers who worships God in Spirit and in Truth. The Body of Christ is not mystical, rather it is literal and can be found at one place in a locality and the people constituting it known. Just as it were in the days of Christ’s earthly ministry, if you were to find his church, it was not part of the rest of the movements in his time. There was many religious sects in those days such as the Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, Scribes, Zealots and Nazarites but Jesus came on the scene and said I quote: “I will build my Church and the gate of hell will not prevail against it” off quote. Matt 16:18 and He earlier warned His church against the doctrine of those other sects. See vs 6-12.This means that even today, in our dispensation, not every sect is the Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is identified by Order, Government, Doctrine and Spirit that is in there. Therefore if any movement will claim to be the Body of Christ, must uphold the above principles like the church of Christ did. Acts 1:13-15. Acts2:38-42 this is the church Jesus left and prayed for in John !7:17, they are separate from the rest of the movements.
BRIEF CHURCH HISTORY IN ZAMBIA
The Body of Christ first came to Africa in 1978 through Apostle Lloyd L Goodwin. He first planted this church in Nairobi Kenya. The work was established under the ministry of Rev Tom Owundo a Ugandan residing in Nairobi, Kenya. It was Bro Owundo that invited Rev Makura of Harare Zimbabwe and gave him the books and tapes of Dr Lloyd L Goodwin and he came with that literature to Zimbabwe. BroMakura later invited Rev A Phiri a pastor of Assemblies of God Church in Chililabombweto Harare and gave him some of Dr Lloyd L Goodwin literature and he came with it to Chililabombwe Zambia. Based on the truth he found in that literature he led a break away faction from Assemblies of God and that became the birth of Gospel Assembly Church in Zambia. Later Bro A Phiri was sent to Lusaka to open an Assembly there and Chililabombwe Assembly was left under the care of Bro Stephen Yoramu Mwale who was one of the Elders working under Bro Phiri. Bro Mwale was later ordained a minister by Rev Tom Owundo in 1985.
The Church in Kitwe was registered in the year of the Lord 1999 by Rev Stephen Yoramu Mwale of Chililabombwe, however the work could not take shape until the year 2005 when I (Rev Francis Mangani) relocated from Chingola to Kitwe with my family. Whilst in Chingola I used to attend services in Chililabombwe. The church was launched on 4th October 2005 and I was ordained a minister with the laying on of hands of Rev S Y Mwale and the presbytery and given charge over Kitwe Assembly. That marked the birth of Gospel Assembly Church – Non-Denominational in the city of Kitwe. From that time the church has steadily gained ground and growth. The Church is now in fellowship with other Assemblies worldwide which stand on the principles of the Body of Christ as committed to us by Apostle Lloyd L Goodwin a powerful servant of God in our time.
We hope to build a well established fellowship in Zambia that is built on Charity and Truth which are some of the pillars of the Corporate Body of Christ. We believe that this church cannot exist alone locally and call herself the Body of Christ. Churches and ministers in the Body compliment each other and that is why Paul tells the Church at Thessalonica in 1Thess2:14 and I quote. “For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judea are in Christ Jesus….” Off quote. It is clear from the observation Paul made of the church at Thessalonica that it was in fellowship with other churches of the like precious faith. We also endeavour to keep the unity of the Spirit and the unity of the faith. Eph4:3,13 We believe as a fellowship the words of our dear Apostle Lloyd L Goodwin and I quote; “Coming together is the beginning- staying together is progress – but working together is success”. The Body of Christ needs dedicated saints of God because without the people you can never have church. The foundation of Body of Christ is being laid again in the nation of Zambia.Ezra4:11-15. We have come to the Body at such a time as this and we have a work to do.
